Flexible Learning Days
On Flexible Learning Days, the normal timetable is suspended to allow the students to experience a range of different learning opportunities. We have two FLDs a year. These take place in Term 2 and 6. Examples of activities the students experience on Flexible Learning Days include:
Year 7 - Hero day
All Year 7 students will be taking part in activity with their tutors and tutor groups. This will enable students to think about who their personal heroes are before going on to consider their own future and personal aspirations and what kind of “hero” they want to be.
Year 8 - V&A Innovate and Multi Faith day
Students in band Y will take part in an annual National Schools Challenge. It asks students to work in teams to design a solution to a real-world problem. On FLD students will use their creative minds focusing on ‘Renew’. How might we give objects, materials, and spaces a second life? The most innovative ideas and groups from the day we hope to enter the national competition.
Students in band X will be taking part in our highly successful Multi Faith Day. This is an opportunity for students to meet believers from all over the country and find out how, despite all our differences, we have so much in common. If students have a pair of headphones with a small jack, then they are welcome to bring them for their own use during the ‘Breath’ workshop.
Year 9 - Healthy Lifestyles Day
Year 9 students enhance their Futures work with a day based around the development of understanding of different elements of health – physical, emotional and sexual. Students take part in First Aid workshops and a session with GayGlos amongst other things.
Year 10 - Employability Skills Workshop Day
All students in Year 10 take part in a series of Careers activities. They will work with representatives from local businesses to develop key skills in areas such as applications forms, CVs and interview techniques. In addition, they will be learning about key employment trends and learning about areas of the local economy that are growing. All students will have a mock interview with a local business person.
Year 11 - Post-16 Taster Day
All students in Year 11 take part in a Post-16 Taster Day. This will involve students visiting local Further and Higher Education facilities including Gloucestershire College, SGS (Stroud) College, Hartpury College, Cirencester College, Marling 6th Form, The Crypt 6th Form and St Peter's 6th Form to experience a range of taster activities. This will give students a valuable insight into life after Severn Vale and the expectations of post 16 courses.
