Performance Platforms
Our term 1 performance platforms saw a strong number of students sign-up from Year 8-11 to the point we needed a reserve list – a sign of very keen performers, which is a fantastic start to the new academic year!
The full capacity lunchtime sessions totally delivered and we will have one extra platform next week – Thursday 17 October (details for those performers will follow early next week).
Our week 6 platforms featured soloists, ensembles, a trio and a duet with a great range of singers, guitarists, various drummers, our Y9 flautist, a new to performing Y8 pianist and a newly discovered bassist (they are rare but so important to ensemble playing!).
As always a broad range of musical tastes were showcased: Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Police, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madcon, Tate McRae, Adele, Bruno Mars, Lexi Jayde, plus more. It is fair to say all students were organised, practised and prepared themselves well with all performances going and being received very well.
Some highlights from the week include Hunter (Year 8) performing two piano duets with our piano teacher Mary Hughes, Kara (Year 9) performing her own song with lyrics written by herself with our Singing teacher Holly, a new Year 8 band (Ethan, Riley and Eaden), Max (Year 10) delivering a powerful and driving Metallica song whilst expertly continuing with a magically moving crash cymbal, our improvising Rhythm Ensemble and School Band members, having several solo guitarists gave new encouraging directions (Ollie in Year 11 and Aaron in Year 10) plus our many keen solo singers across all year groups.
Thank you to all our performers for a brilliant week which very much showcased musical passion, maturity and artistry too. Their practice paid off, they all achieved well and were appreciated by all students and staff that were able to join us and enjoy the week's musical culture and encouraging creative community.
We very much hope our Year 7 students will get immersed in our term 2 musical and creative offerings – the start of our annual “Big Sing”, another batch of lunchtime platforms, our Winter Talent Show and Drama club will be rehearsing towards their 24 January 2025 production of "Aladdin". Details for all these events will follow soon if not early next term.
