DofE Update
Severn Vale students DofE achievements contribute £2,488.20 to the local community
During the last academic year, our students continued to show real commitment and perseverance in completing activities for their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
9 students completed their Bronze DofE Award and 1 student completed their Silver DofE Award (having completed their Bronze Award two years ago). This would have been much more had it not been for the postponement of the planned expedition. To their credit 5 Bronze and 3 Silver participants got Certificates of Achievement for completing the three other sections in 2020, with several others one section away from this.
These students in total completed 1781 hours of activity outside of the curriculum, which is up from 1651 last year.
- 663 hours of physical activity (up 33% on last year) including walking, football, rugby, netball, hockey, badminton and various other sports.
- 546 hours learning new skills in music, photography, cooking, drama and many more areas.
- 572 hours of volunteering to help in charity shops, the local library, childcare settings, local primary schools, scouts/ brownies as well as helping the Red Cross with their missing maps and many other wonderful things to help the local community.
The DofE estimate the value of these volunteering hours to be worth £2,488.20 to the local community.
Well done to all those who passed their awards and contributed to the total number of hours.
