Severn Vale School curriculum offers excellent opportunities for developing the knowledge and skills that employers need. Core academic subjects such as English, Maths and Science are important  for a variety of reasons including giving students a broad general knowledge that will enable them to participate in and contribute to society. 

Due to the importance of Maths and English, if a pupil does not achieve a grade 4 or higher in both these GCSEs by the end of Year 11 they will be required to continue working towards this aim as parts of their 16-19 study programme. For some students this will mean studying either Maths or English as well as doing an apprenticeship or college course. For other students it might means taking a stepping stone qualification in order to support them as they work towards a GCSE in both English and Maths Post-16. This is because of the vital importance and powerful labour market value of securing a good standard in Maths and English.
