Brass Taster Sessions
Year 7 students were given an introduction to Brass instruments by Brass Band England
On Monday of this week, 39 Year 7 students attended an introductory workshop about Brass Instruments and the Brass Band - a very high level of interest. This is part of a project being run with Brass Band England which will involve the students taking part in a whole day brass workshop on November 29th culminating in a performance to parents. The workshop explored the different types of brass instruments (including the trumpet, trombone and tuba), how sound is made using a mouthpiece (this was noisy), different types of ensembles and genres where brass instruments are found (from the Tibetan mountains to Ska).
The overall goal of project is to set up a brass band training academy in Quedgeley for young people who want to learn an instrument and play in a brass band. Huge thanks for Paul McLaughlin from BBE for leading such an enjoyable session and we look forward to a day of being ‘Brassed Off’ in November.
